Turn Up The Music Part II

In yesterday's post, I explained how music really speaks to me. I wrote about Point of Grace and their song, "Heal the Wound" and second chances. I also mentioned that the reason I bought my CD in the first place was because of two songs - one being Heal the Wound and the second one being 'How You Live'.
Wake up to the sunlight with your windows open
Don't hold in your anger or leave things unspoken
Wear your red dress use your good dishes
Make a big mess and make lots of wishes
Have what you want, but want what you have
And don't spend you life looking back

Turn up the music Turn it up Loud
Take a few chances Let it all out
Because you won't regret it
Looking back from where you have been
Because it's not who you knew and it's not what you did
It's how you Live

So go to the ballgames and go to the ballet
And go see your folks more than just on the holidays
Kiss all your children Dance with your wife
Tell your husband you love him every night
Don't run from the truth cause you can't get away
Oh no
Just face it and you'll be ok

Turn up the music Turn it up Loud
Take a few chances Let it all out
Because you won't regret it
Looking back from where you have been
Because it's not who you knew and it's not what you did
It's how you Live

Where ever you are and wherever you've been
Now is a time to begin

So give to the needy and Pray for the grieving
Even when you don't think that you can
Cause all that you do is bound to come back to you
So think of your fellow man
And make peace with God and Make peace with yourself
Oh yeah
Cause in the end there's nobody else

Turn up the music Turn it up Loud
Take a few chances Let it all out
Because you won't regret it
Looking back from where you have been
Because it's not who you knew and it's not what you did
It's how you Live

Because it's not who you knew and it's not what you did
It's how you Live

How You Live, Point of Grace 2007

Before I bought the CD when this song would come on the radio, Baby Gurl would beg me to 'turn up the music'. (We here in the turtle household play our music - all of our music - very loud). I'm not sure why Baby Gurl likes the song so much - like her mama, she's really drawn to female voices. But here lately, when she hears a song, I can tell she's really listening to the lyrics because she'll ask about them. (Which in turn, makes me ever more diligent about listening to music I don't mind my Baby Gurl analyzing!)

To me, this song is an extension of Heal the Wound. God's grace heals us of our past transgressions - but life is for the living. Interestingly enough, one of POG's members sites this as her favorite Scripture verse:
II Tim. 1:7 "For God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power, love and sound mind."
~ Leigh Cappillino

Ah! Don't you just love it? Permission to live in a Godly and joyful way! NIV puts it this way: For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

It's easy to just 'go through the motions'. But that's not how we're supposed to live. We're supposed to grab life and and live it.

If God is for us, who can be against us?

Nobody.

Until next time...

  1. I listen to my 'classic' rock music all day on XM radio. I know, I'm still stuck in 1974. :o) Music is important, though, it helps express how we feel and brings back memories. I really understand.

  3. I'm not a loud music sort of person unless I know I won't be interrupted. Nothing makes me more crazy than belting out an old favorite and having the hub or the kids interrupt it three or four times.

That means I usually listen to music when I'm alone.

  4. I embarrass myself no less than six times a day (I've counted - really), so being caught singing really wouldn't be that big of deal.
